United by their shape and spout, these pitchers offer a vast decorative repertoire: animals, flowers, costumed women, landscapes. Today the “sruli” of eighteenth-century inspiration are made by the master potters of Grottaglie, the only centre in Puglia where potters, guardians of the ancient tradition, still work in the ceramic district called Li cammen ’re.
